The Foundry is a Singapore-based platform that brings the creative community together through collaboration. Formerly a historical government-owned building that housed the Elections department, it now operates as a shared space incubating approximately 24 organizations — supporting design, social enterprises and non-profits through co-working, events, retail, and creative exchange. SR® is honored to be a part of this project led by award-winning architects at WOHA and collaborating once again with the visionary lighting consultant ambiguous, providing them the much reliant SR® Contour Light Auras and SR® Blaze to bring their creative lighting designs to life.
As stated by ambiguous: The lighting design aims to balance out the character of its existing architecture with a warm and inviting atmosphere for the community. The façade is illuminated from below to accentuate the building’s architectural features, while The Foundry’s signature orange accents and surrounding greenery are subtly lit from within, creating a serene sense of harmony.
Each window is lit with our high-performance SR® Contour Light Auras directed upwards, giving the impression that the structure is lightly suspended at night. Designed for durability, it is well-suited for outdoor conditions exposed to sunlight, rain, and pollution. Additionally, the 6-lead RGB chip enables dynamic color options, making it ideal for architectural accent lighting that can highlight windows in a variety of moods.

For the greenery feature of the building, ambiguous selected our SR® Blaze, a sleek and elegant fixture that offers solution for contemporary architectural lighting where style and form play a key role in this project. Beyond aesthetics, SR® Blaze offers flexible mounting options, including surface mount, adjustable bracket, and magnetic mount, allowing it to adapt seamlessly to a variety of architectural surfaces. The result is a stunning illumination that beautifully highlights the greenery, visible from within the building and to passersby outside.
Faced with the challenge of a limited budget, ambiguous geared all ideas towards simple, thoughtful gestures to enhance and celebrate the building’s inherent character. Interestingly, all the discontinued luminaires that were originally slated for disposal were repurposed, adding a layer of sustainability to the project.
It was really a clever choice by ambiguous for not relying on sheer brightness to command attention at first sight which would give a negative effect making it jarring. Instead, by selecting and controlling the lights to create a quiet, elegant atmosphere that subtly reveal the building’s beauty and presence, radiating gently into the night.
