Singapore’s new national garden in the heartlands – Jurong Lake Gardens is a bustling community space recently revamped & designed for families and residents to embark on new experiences and immerse in the atmosphere. We are pleased to be a part of this project.

By day, this vibrant landscape bursts with colors and sensory delights but as night falls, the garden transforms & lights up beautifully with our SR® lighting solutions, creating a magical ambiance. The Japanese and Chinese garden is elegantly landscaped by our collaborators from renowned landscape design firm Salad Dressing complemented by a stunning lighting design from Lighting specialist LPA.

The lighting concept by LPA is designed to harmonize with its surroundings, enhancing the beauty of natural light effects.

Although Japanese and Chinese gardens differ in art, culture and philosophy, both emphasize natural simplicity, subtlety, and a deep harmony with nature. Physical elements like arched bridges, pavilions, tea houses and winding paths are also some of the common similarities. Symbolic elements like rocks, water, and plants each represent unique qualities, and thoughtfully designed lighting helps to highlight and enhance these features, bringing their beauty to life.

One of the main highlights of this stunning garden is the pagodas—a tiered tower with multiple eaves. This multi-level structure allows visitors to ascend and enjoy sweeping views of the expansive 90-hectare garden. Each level is beautifully highlighted with our CONT V SLIM ONJ04, carefully installed along the inner eaves to accentuate the intricate architectural details and illuminate the space. It encircles the building, featuring high uniformity with no dark spot creating a continuous 360° visual throughout. The lighting brings the pagoda to life, enhancing its elegance at every level, creating a striking, illuminated facade that captivates from a distance.

Our Contour slim was also utilized on the Stone boat and Tea Pavilion attraction, providing uplighting and ceiling lighting that effectively enhance the ambience and highlight their architectural beauty. The lighting was perfectly balanced, allowing it to not just illuminate the interior space but also the natural beauty of the floating Water lilies surrounding the boat and pavilion. Even after dark, our fixtures allow visitors to fully appreciate the serene nightscape.

Illuminating the bridges and pathways was a key aspect of this revitalization project. Our CONT V SLIM & CONT H LM01 was used for concealed lighting, subtly guiding visitors along their path. Given that this mega garden/park is a vibrant community space, coming even more alive at night with strollers, joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers. The surroundings of water and dense foliage create potential hazards, so providing clear, reliable lighting is essential for safety. At the same time, we also focused on highlighting the aesthetics of the garden. Effective way finding became a top priority and our SR® products were selected for their lighting efficiency and durability with our high grade silicone ensures long lasting solution in harsh outdoor environments.

Cove uplighting was used at the interior and exterior of the multi-purpose hall with our CONT V SLIM ONJ09. The nearby reflecting pool complements the shallow, still body of water, which reflects light beautifully and enhances the surrounding Multi-purpose Hall.

Contour lights are also used at the lily pond area. Strategically placed along the sides to highlight the curvature of the pond acting also as a visual safety, our CONT V SLIM ONJ04 strip casts a beautiful soft gentle glow on the plants and water. This illumination enhances the natural beauty of the plants, bringing their visual characteristics and small details into focus.

As we conclude the transformation of Jurong Lake Gardens, our SR® Contour Slim stands out as one of the key ingredient in illuminating the beauty of the gardens and architectures. Singapore has truly captured the essence of Japanese and Chinese designs in the heartlands of Jurong. The execution of both the landscape and lighting designs has been outstanding, thanks to the exceptional work of our collaborators.
